The Swedish text depicts the arrival of a bird, perhaps a swallow, to the harsh northern landscape as winter begins to recede. The choir’s SATB voices capture the contrast between the lingering frost and the hopeful signs of a new season, asking why the 'lost stranger' has come to such an unwelcoming shore. The music mirrors this plea, questioning the bird’s choice before ultimately expressing a longing for warmth, song, and sun, urging the bird to fly south towards a more welcoming clime.
