I BELIEVE by Ekene-Irichukwu Muojekwu — Lyrics
About I BELIEVE
When we sing the Creed, it can sometimes feel like a long recitation of facts. This lively setting by V. Madueke and Ekene dirichukwu Muojekwu changes that completely, turning our profession of faith into an energetic, joyful dialogue. Written for the St. Paul's Seminary Main Choir in Ukpo for Palm Sunday 2019, "I Believe" breaks the articles of faith into short, rhythmic solo lines, immediately answered by the choir's enthusiastic "Do you believe? Yes I do!"
This call-and-response structure is brilliant for keeping both the choir and the congregation fully engaged. Instead of just reading through the text, every singer is constantly reaffirming their faith. The driving solfa melody moves us briskly through the mysteries of creation, the incarnation, and the resurrection, building up to a triumphant double "Amen, Alleluia" at the end. It is a fantastic choice for youth masses, vibrant Sunday liturgies, or any time the choir wants to inject a sense of active, personal conviction into the Creed.
