Giaches de Wert's Hor fuggi infedel' ombra opens with a close, imitative texture, the five voices of STTTB weaving together to create a rich sonic fabric. This secular Italian madrigal, characteristic of the late Renaissance, sets a dramatic text in which the poet urges an unfaithful shadow to be uprooted from his heart. He declares that righteous anger now expels what his unjust desire had harboured, and he vows never again to dream of phantoms and lies crowned by this deceitful presence.
