About Heruvimskaya pesn
This setting of the Cherubic Hymn for SATB choir captures the solemn mystery of the Divine Liturgy. The text, sung in Church Slavonic, speaks of the Cherubim secretly symbolising the life-giving Trinity and singing the thrice-holy hymn. The choir is invited to set aside all worldly cares, lifting up the King of all, unseen, borne by angelic hosts. Taneyev's powerful anthem is a profound musical reflection on this central moment of Orthodox Christian worship, where the earthly congregation joins with the heavenly host in adoration.
