Herr Olav by Wilhelm Peterson-Berger — Lyrics

About Herr Olav
Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, a leading figure in Swedish Romanticism, arranged this traditional folk song. Scored for SATB choir, Herr Olav is a secular work in Swedish. The text tells the poignant story of a knight, Herr Olav, who, upon hearing of his beloved's death, rides with haste across the mountains. He reaches her side, entrusts his soul to God, and dies beside her. The composer's arrangement captures the narrative's dramatic and emotional arc, bringing this somber ballad to life for mixed voices.
