About Haneross Hallolu
Louis Lewandowski’s Haneross Hallolu is a sacred work for SATB choir in Hebrew. The music opens with a direct and engaging texture, drawing the listener into its devotional mood. The text, recited during the festival of Hanukkah, speaks of lighting the lamps for the miracles and deliverances that God wrought for the ancient Israelites through their priests. It continues by reflecting on the sanctity of the festival lights, which are only for looking upon, not for any other use, expressing gratitude for God’s wondrous acts and salvation. Lewandowski’s setting captures the solemnity and joy of this ancient Hanukkah prayer, providing a rich and resonant choral experience.
