Guerissés moy

The composer Crecquillon expresses a lover's desperate plea for relief from suffering. He begs his beloved to heal the pain in his heart, reporting that everyone tells him he is out of favour. If this is true, he wishes for death, as he has no other comfort. This is a four-part secular chanson, typical of the Renaissance period, where the composer uses the plaintive French text to create a rich vocal texture.
