About Gradual & Alleluia Assumption BVM
Henry Bird Collins’ setting of the Gradual and Alleluia for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary opens with a rich SATB texture. The Latin text, drawn from the Gradual, speaks of the daughter of the King, whose beauty is desired and who enters in golden raiment. This is followed by the Alleluia, celebrating the Assumption of Mary into heaven, with the angelic hosts rejoicing. Collins’ music reflects the solemnity and exaltation of the texts, offering a devotional and grand setting suitable for a significant feast day within the sacred repertoire.
