Good Physician by Oliver Holden — Lyrics
1. How lost was my condition
Till Jesus made me whole!
There is but one Physician
Can cure a sin–sick soul.
Next door to death he found me,
And snatched me from the grave,
To tell to all around me,
His wondrous power to save.

About Good Physician
Oliver Holden's Good Physician is a sacred song in English for two parts (soprano/bass and tenor/bass). The text expresses the idea of spiritual sickness and the healing power of Jesus. The lyrics describe sin as a terrible disease that affects every part of a person, raging most within. Only a believer, the song suggests, can find relief from this affliction, drawing a parallel between physical ailments and the condition of a soul estranged from God. The composer's setting would likely reflect the earnest, devotional character of the text, conveying its message of hope and redemption through straightforward musical means suitable for congregational or small group singing.
