About Good Friday
Kathryn Rose’s anthem Good Friday sets a deeply reflective text for SATB choir. The words, which explore the composer’s own perceived lack of sorrow at the foot of the cross, contrast her own emotional state with that of the women, Peter, the thief, and even the celestial bodies, all of whom displayed profound grief. The text then transforms into a plea for divine mercy, asking Christ, the good Shepherd, to seek and save his flock. The music is intended to convey the profound solemnity of the occasion, moving from introspection to earnest supplication. This English-language anthem offers a powerful devotional experience for the choir and congregation alike.
