Gloria, Old Hall 27 by Pycard — Lyrics
About Gloria, Old Hall 27
As part of the Mass Ordinary, the Gloria is a hymn of praise sung on feasts and Sundays. This setting by Pycard, a composer of the late medieval period, is for five voices: two sopranos, alto, tenor, and bass. The Latin text is a jubilant exultation, praising God and Christ, and recounting the entry into heaven. The composer's treatment of the text moves from the profound solemnity of the opening to joyful declarations, before concluding with the solemnity of the Trinity and the Amen. The intricate contrapuntal lines and rich sonorities typical of the period make this a rewarding work for an experienced choir.
