About Gloria, Old Hall 2
This setting of the Gloria text, attributed to an anonymous composer from the Old Hall manuscript, opens with the triumphant declaration of "Glory to God in the highest". It then moves to the earthly peace and goodwill proclaimed to humanity, before the choir expresses its praise, blessing, adoration and glorification of God. The text continues to voice gratitude for His great glory, and addresses Christ as the "only-begotten Son" and "Lamb of God". The music reflects the solemnity and majesty of these words, culminating in the solemn affirmation of the Trinity and the final Amen.
