Glória nas alturas

This traditional Portuguese carol celebrates the birth of Jesus. The text, opening with the angelic "Gloria in excelsis Deo", describes the Nativity scene, portraying the infant Christ as God the Creator sleeping in a manger. It reflects on the profound mystery of the Incarnation – the infinite God becoming human, equal to us, yet immortal. The lyrics emphasize the humility of Christ, born in poverty, and his mission to save humanity. This unison setting is ideal for a congregational or children's choir, offering a simple yet deeply devotional musical expression of the Christmas message.
