Glad Tidings by Stephen Jenks — Lyrics

While shepherds watch'd their flocks by night, All seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down, And glory shone around. Fear not, said he, (for mighty dread Had seized their troubled mind), Glad tidings of great joy I bring To you and all mankind. To you, in David's town, this day Is born of David's line A Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, And this shall be the sign.

About Glad Tidings

Stephen Jenks's SATB anthem, Glad Tidings, sets the familiar words of the traditional Christmas carol. The text recounts the appearance of an angel to the shepherds tending their flocks, announcing the birth of a Saviour in Bethlehem. The music will reflect the awe and wonder of this divine revelation and the subsequent heavenly host singing of glory to God and peace on earth. This English sacred piece offers a direct and moving setting of a well-loved Nativity narrative, suitable for Christmas services.
