About Gaudeamus omnes a 8
Andrea Rota's Gaudeamus omnes a 8 is a motet for double choir (SATB.AATB) in Latin. The text, suitable for an entrance or festive occasion, begins with a call to rejoice in the Lord. It variously celebrates the Assumption or Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the feast of All Saints, or the martyrdom of Saint Stephen. In each case, the angels rejoice and praise God's Son. The music would have been conceived for a prominent liturgical setting where the sonority of eight voices could create a grand and celebratory effect. The SATB.AATB voicing allows for rich textural possibilities and dramatic contrast between the two choirs.
