I.
Lord, for tomorrow and its needs
I do not pray;
Keep me, O God, from stain of sin,
Just for today;
Help me to labor earnestly,
And duly pray;
Let me be kind in word and deed,
Father, today.
Amen.

Like as a father pitieth his own children,
So the Lord pitieth them that fear Him;
As far as the East is from the West,
So far hath He removed our transgressions from us.

About Five Responses
George A. Burdett’s Five Responses offer a versatile collection for church services. The first response is a plea for daily guidance and ethical conduct, emphasizing kindness and earnest effort. The second, based on Psalm 103, beautifully articulates the Lord’s compassionate nature and His forgiveness of sins. The third response, a prayer for divine mercy, acknowledges God as the hearer of prayer and the source of absolution, drawing on themes of iniquity and forgiveness. The fourth is a jubilant setting of the Trisagion, declaring God’s holiness and the fullness of His glory. Finally, the fifth response provides a moment of profound quietude and affirmation with the text 'Be Still and know that I am God.'
