About Filli Cara et Amata
Andrea Falconieri was a composer of the early Baroque period, known for his instrumental music and vocal works. This secular madrigal, Filli Cara et Amata, is written for two sopranos. The Italian text presents a playful dialogue between two lovers, Aminta and Filli. Aminta questions Filli about the ownership of her lips, lamenting her silence and rejection of his pleas. Filli, in turn, teases Aminta, suggesting that if he possesses her heart, he also possesses her lips, inviting him to take them as a sign of their shared affection. The music would have originally been intended for intimate performance in a domestic setting.
