About Fido pensier
Philippe de Monte was a prolific and celebrated composer of the late Renaissance, known for his mastery of vocal polyphony. This setting of Fido pensier is a five-part madrigal, scored for SAATB. The Italian text explores themes of devotion and spiritual longing, urging the 'faithful thought' to seek solace in Christ's heart. It speaks of turning away from worldly error, finding light in divine presence, and persevering in faith. The madrigal form allows Monte to create a rich, expressive texture, with the interplay of the five voices reflecting the emotional journey described in the lyrics.
