About Fiamme che da begli occhi
Felice Anerio was a significant Italian composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. This delightful canzonetta for two sopranos and tenor exemplifies the lighter, more lyrical style of secular Italian part-music that became popular in the late sixteenth century. The text speaks of flames and burning hearts emanating from beautiful eyes, a classic theme of unrequited love. The singers are urged to temper the intensity of the suffering, pleading for relief from the painful arrows and chains of love.
