EYEN ERONG ABASI

“Eyen Erong Abasi” is a serene setting of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) composed by Jude Nnam. Sung in Efik, it brings a gentle, pleading reverence to the fraction rite of the Mass. The melody flows with a moderate, steady grace, capturing the congregation's prayer for mercy and peace just before Communion.

In the choir loft, this piece offers a wonderful moment for vocal blend. The parts move together in a straightforward SATB structure, allowing the natural cadence of the language to carry the prayer. As the voices unite on the repeated plea “Tua nnyin mbom” (have mercy on us) and finally resolve into “No nnyin emem” (grant us peace), it creates a quiet, moving atmosphere that prepares the faithful to receive the Eucharist.
