About Esurientes implevit bonis
John Sheppard's Esurientes implevit bonis is a setting of a section from the Magnificat, the Latin text of which is traditionally sung at Vespers. The composer's treatment of the words 'esurientes implevit bonis' (he filled the hungry with good things) and 'divites dimisit inanes' (and sent the rich away empty) draws out the contrast between divine generosity and human emptiness. Written for an AATBB choir, this sacred motet offers a powerful and expressive rendition of the Magnificat's joyous praise, making it a compelling choice for liturgical or concert settings where a rich, male-voice sound is desired.
