1. 't Was ochtend. Een meisje ging wand'len aan 't strand.
Een bootje, dat vlagde lei reê ( lag aan wal).
En straks was de vriend'lijke schipper ter hand,
die sprak: "Schoon kind wilt ge meê?
't Is het rechte getij om te varen,
nu de morgenzon glanst op de baren.
Grijp moed, schoon kind, en vaar meê!"
2. Het meisje met blosjes op voorhoofd en wang,
stond peinzend aan 't ruim van de zee.
Daar klonk uit den hogen een tovergezang,
daar murmelde 't zacht langs de reê:
"Ga varen, lief kind, ga varen.
De morgenzon glanst op de baren.
Gij voert het geluk met u meê!"
