Ecce sacerdos magnus by Luca Purchiaroni — Lyrics
Ecce sacerdos magnus, qui in diebus suis placuit Deo.
Ideo jurejurando fecit illum Dominus crescere in plebem suam.
Benedictionem omnium gentium dedit illi
et testamentum suum confirmavit super caput ejus.

About Ecce sacerdos magnus
Luca Purchiaroni’s Ecce sacerdos magnus for SATB choir sets a powerful Latin text celebrating a great high priest. The music opens with a strong sense of occasion, reflecting the solemnity of the words which describe the priest who pleased God and was chosen to lead his people. The setting moves through the scriptural verses, building to the triumphant Gloria Patri. This is a substantial and rewarding liturgical setting, ideal for moments of solemnity within a service or as a standalone motet. Its effective use of the four voices creates a rich and resonant sound, perfectly suited to the sacred nature of the Latin text.
