About Ecce Panis Angelorum
This SATB setting in Latin of the hymn Ecce Panis Angelorum speaks of Christ as the Bread of Angels, the food for travelers and children of God, never to be cast to dogs. The text draws on Old Testament typologies: Isaac's sacrifice, the Paschal Lamb, and the manna given to the Israelites in the desert. The second part addresses Jesus as the true shepherd and bread, asking him to nourish and protect us, and to let us see good things in the land of the living, making us commensals, co-heirs, and companions of the saints. Luc Jakobs' composition gives voice to this profound eucharistic theology.
