About Ecce panis
This motet is ideally suited for the Eucharist, particularly during Lent or for Corpus Christi. Antonio Lotti sets a Latin text that speaks of Christ as the Bread of Angels, the food of pilgrims, and the true bread of the children of God. The words move from Old Testament prefigurations such as Isaac's sacrifice and the manna in the desert, to a direct address to Jesus as the Good Shepherd, pleading for His protection and nourishment in the life to come.
