Dulces exuviae (Dido's Lament) by Douglas Leedy — Lyrics
About Dulces exuviae (Dido's Lament)
The lament of Dido, Queen of Carthage, is here set for a large choir of SSAATTBB voices. The Latin text, drawn from Virgil's Aeneid, expresses her despair as she contemplates her impending death, having lost her beloved Aeneas. She recalls her accomplishments, the founding of her city, and her vengeance upon her brother for her husband's death, but laments that her happiness was too great and that she will die unavenged. Douglas Leedy's setting captures the pathos of this tragic moment, offering a profound and moving choral experience.
