About Du fond de ma pensee
Pierre de Manchicourt was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance. This motet setting of Psalm 130, De profundis clamavi, uses the Latin text of the traditional prayer for the dead. The composer sets the psalm's plea for mercy and hope in God's redemption for a choir of four voices, SATT. The French title, Du fond de ma pensée, translates to 'From the depths of my thought', suggesting a personal meditation or supplication that also finds expression in the Latin text. It is a deeply reflective work, characteristic of sacred music from the 16th century.
