Domine ad adjuvandum a 5

This setting of the traditional Vespers text Domine ad adjuvandum, by Giovanni Paolo Colonna, is scored for SSATB voices. Its opening invocation, Deus in adjutorium meum intende, calls for God's speedy help. The piece includes the Gloria Patri and concludes with the Alleluia, though a penitential season text is provided as an alternative. Colonna was a leading composer of sacred music in late 17th-century Italy, and this setting exemplifies the grand style typical of Bolognese Vespers music of the period, suitable for liturgical occasions and concert performance alike.
