About Dite mi o si or no
Cristóbal de Morales was a prolific composer of the Spanish Renaissance. This secular Italian madrigal for SATB voices is a fine example of the genre. The text presents a dilemma for the singer: should they ask for a 'yes' or a 'no' from their beloved? A 'no' would bring them honour, but a 'yes' would be the fruit of their suffering.
