Deus firmavit orbem terrae by Franz Hengesbach — Lyrics
Laus cantici ipsi David, in die ante sabbatum, quando fundata est terra.
Dominus regnavit, decorem indutus est:
indutus est Dominus fortitudinem, et praecinxit se.
Etenim firmavit orbem terrae, qui non commovebitur.
Parata sedes tua ex tunc; a saeculo tu es.

About Deus firmavit orbem terrae
This setting for two-part choir (SA) presents the Latin text Deus firmavit orbem terrae, part of the Mass propers. The music opens with a sense of powerful proclamation, reflecting the text's declaration that the Lord reigns and has established the world, which shall not be moved. The composer captures the grandeur of creation and the divine authority described in the psalm verses. The SA voicing allows for a clear and direct expression of these weighty themes, with the two parts often moving in parallel motion or engaging in simple, effective imitation to emphasize the text's message of steadfastness and divine order. It is a fitting choice for services focusing on God's sovereignty and the beauty of creation.
