Der Gesang by Conradin Kreutzer — Lyrics
Der Gesang, der Gesang
in harmonischem Klang
muss die Seele mit Wonne erfüllen!
Wenn das Lied laut erschallt,

About Der Gesang
Conradin Kreutzer's Der Gesang is a German secular part-song for TTBB male voices. The text celebrates the power of song to uplift the spirit, banish sorrow, and enhance joy. It paints vivid scenes: the soul filled with delight by harmonious sound, the magical effect of a loud song revealing profound and happy things, and the comforting power of music to dispel sadness and bring light to troubled eyes. Even in the face of anger or tears, a song can offer solace. Finally, the text rejoices in how song accompanies life's pleasures, uniting friends in a cheerful circle, whether in love, with wine, or simply in the bonds of friendship. It declares that true joy is found within song.
