Der Engel des Herrn by Manfred Hößl — Lyrics
Der Engel des Herrn aus Gottes Macht,
Maria hat die Botschaft bracht:
Sie soll die Mutter Gottes sein
und bleiben eine Jungfrau rein.
Maria sprach: "Sieh, ich bin rein
und will die Magd des höchsten sein:
Dein Wille Herr gescheh an mir,
mein Herz, oh Gott, das schenk ich dir!"

About Der Engel des Herrn
This sacred German lied for SATB voices tells the story of the Annunciation. The Angel of the Lord brings news to Mary that she will be the mother of God, remaining a virgin. Mary accepts God's will with devotion, and the text continues to reflect on the incarnation of Jesus Christ, his suffering, and a plea for the salvation of souls. Manfred Hößl’s setting is designed to convey the profound spiritual message of the text through its vocal writing.
