Deh fuss'il ver by Antonio Barré — Lyrics
About Deh fuss'il ver
Antonio Barré’s madrigal Deh fuss’il ver expresses a lover’s passionate plea, asking if it might be true that his eyes, his breast, and his beautiful red lips truly belong to his Lord. He questions whether he is pleasing and dear to his Lord, and if his Lord despises his gift. He argues that he adores the cause of all his good and that his Lord must love him, and therefore wish these eyes to be his, eyes which have taken him from himself. He concludes that his eyes have been and will be his Lord’s, but he wonders who will dare touch them. He laments that love is never without jealousy or trouble. This secular Italian work is scored for SSATTB voices.
