About De profundis
This setting of the Latin text De Profundis is suitable for liturgical occasions. As a setting of Psalm 129, it is often sung as a gradual at Mass, particularly during penitential seasons or at funerals. Franz Xaver Witt’s SATB arrangement allows for rich harmonic textures to convey the plea and hope found within the text. The composer’s skill in crafting devotional music is evident as the choir moves from the depths of supplication towards the reassurance of God's mercy and redemption.
