Glory be to the Father

When a choir takes on Handel, we know we are in for a serious, rewarding rehearsal process. This piece is the grand concluding doxology from his Utrecht Jubilate, split into two magnificent choral movements: a sweeping eight-part double chorus for "Glory be to the Father," followed by a lively, intricate fugal section for "As it was in the beginning."

Singing this requires real stamina and attention to detail. The double chorus section asks for a massive, unified sound to declare the glory of the Trinity, with the voices echoing and reinforcing each other. Then, as we move into the final movement, the texture shifts. The parts weave in and out, chasing each other through the "Amen" runs in classic Baroque style.

We usually reserve a piece of this scale for major concerts, choral festivals, or highly festive celebrations where a full classical repertoire is appropriate. It is a brilliant challenge for the choir loft, pushing our sections to listen closely and blend perfectly while navigating the brilliant counterpoint.
