Con male nuove by Barbara Strozzi — Lyrics

About Con male nuove
Barbara Strozzi's Con male nuove is a secular aria for solo voice, sung in Italian. The text expresses the singer's weariness with love, proclaiming that loving only brings pain and sorrow. The repeated lines lament that a desire for love leads only to suffering and martyrdom, and that love itself is ungrateful and fleeting. The piece, a Baroque aria, would suit a programme exploring the dramatic and emotional range of solo vocal music from the 17th century.
