Maksim Berezovsky’s Communion Sentence No. 2 opens with a sense of majestic calm, the SATB voices weaving together in a rich, homophonic texture. The music reflects the comforting words of the text, drawn from Psalm 112. The Latin phrases speak of the blessed man who fears the Lord, whose descendants will be mighty on earth. They also describe how light dawns in darkness for the upright, and how the righteous man, whose heart is fixed on the Lord, shall not be moved. The motet’s grandeur and sense of enduring justice are conveyed through clear, dignified vocal writing. This sacred, liturgical setting offers a profound musical meditation on faith and divine blessing.
