AT THE BANQUET by ABRAHAM UKE — Lyrics
About AT THE BANQUET
When we prepare our choirs for the Liturgy of the Eucharist, we look for hymns that draw the congregation into the mystery of the altar. Abraham Uke’s "At the Banquet" does exactly this, offering a gentle, reverent reflection on the Body and Blood of Christ. The verses walk us through the sacrifice of the cross and the boundless love that invites us to the table, reminding us that we are partaking in the "food of angels."
Musically, the piece is set at a steady, majestic pace (Maestoso), giving the singers room to clearly deliver the profound words of each stanza. The verses build smoothly before opening up into a warm, inviting chorus. Though the score includes a dedication for a 2022 wedding in Edo State, its message makes it a perfect Communion piece for any Sunday Mass or feast like Corpus Christi. The recurring call to "come and eat of this holy feast" serves as a beautiful, direct invitation to the faithful approaching the altar.
