About COME DOWN HOLY SPIRIT
"Come Down Holy Spirit" is a vibrant, rhythmic invocation perfect for Pentecost Sunday or any Mass where we call upon the presence of the Holy Spirit. Arranged with a lively, driving energy, the song opens with a joyful cascade of "Halleluias" before moving into earnest verses that ask the Creator Spirit to descend, fill our hearts, and renew the face of the earth.
For a choir, the true joy of this piece lies in its layered, call-and-response chorus. The lower voices lead the urgent, repeating plea—"So come down Holy Spirit"—while the upper voices answer and interlock with them. This builds a wonderful momentum in the choir loft, mirroring the sound of a congregation united in one continuous prayer.
Because of its upbeat tempo and themes of gathering to share God's blessings, it serves wonderfully as an Entrance hymn to set a celebratory tone for the liturgy. It also works just as well as a spirited Recessional, sending the faithful out into the world with gladness and the living Spirit.
