About Clori amorosa
This secular Italian madrigal for treble duet (SSB) sets a poem of unrequited love. The text describes the beloved Clori as more beautiful than any rose or star, whose bright eyes pierce the singer's heart. Despite his suffering and pleas, she remains unmoved and disdainful, leaving him to languish in despair. The poet begs love itself to make his cruel beloved more compassionate, lest he perish from the constant torment of her rejection. Monteverdi's setting, typical of the Renaissance madrigal genre, captures the emotional intensity of the text with vivid musical expression.
