About Chi vuol vedere un bosco
Peter Philips was a significant composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, known for his contributions to both sacred and secular music. This Italian madrigal, Chi vuol vedere un bosco, is written for a six-part choir (SSTTBB). The text uses vivid imagery to express intense emotional suffering caused by love. The singer compares his heart to a dark, dense forest, his tears to a sea of bitterness, and his chest to hell itself, all afflicted by the arrows and fires of love. He concludes by stating that the cause of this torment is the cruelty and ruthlessness of his beloved, whom he likens to a tiger.
