Cest ung grand cas by Gentian — Lyrics

About Cest ung grand cas
This French chanson, Cest ung grand cas, for ATTB, explores the complex power of love. The text describes how love governs our physical bodies and desires, often leading to internal conflict. The singer grapples with the dilemma of wanting something intensely but being unable to express it for fear of rejection. This secular work, by Gentian, is ideal for a chamber choir seeking to present expressive Renaissance part-music. It offers a poignant reflection on the struggle between internal longing and external inhibition, a theme resonating across centuries. The four-part texture allows for rich harmonic interplay, bringing the emotional narrative vividly to life.
