About Canton
Oliver Holden's hymn Canton is ideal for services of dedication or for general use in church. The text is a paraphrase of Psalm 122, traditionally sung by pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem. In this setting, the choir delivers the words of invitation and praise. The SATB voicing offers opportunities for rich harmonic colour and devotional expression. The composer draws on the familiar text to create a piece that is both comforting and uplifting, suitable for congregational singing or as a thoughtful anthem within a service. Its dual language presentation allows for flexibility in performance.
