Bone pastor by Thomas Tallis — Lyrics
About Bone pastor
A powerful Eucharistic motet from the Renaissance, Thomas Tallis’s Bone pastor is set for SATB choir in Latin. The text, a sequence hymn, addresses Christ as the good shepherd and true bread, pleading for His nourishment and protection. It asks Jesus to lead us to see the good things in the land of the living and to make us fellow-heirs and companions of the saints in heaven. This motet would be appropriate for services during the Easter season, or for any occasion when the Eucharist is central. Tallis’s mastery of counterpoint and clear text setting combine to create a moving and devotional reflection on the sacrament.
