About O BLESS THE LORD

"O Bless the Lord" is a vibrant, rhythmic setting of the Canticle of Daniel, calling on all of creation to lift up a voice of praise. When we sing this piece, we are joining a cosmic chorus. The verses walk us through the wonders of the natural world—from the sun, moon, and stars to the frost, lightning, and dolphins—gathering every element of the earth into one great act of worship.

In the choir loft, this song brings a wonderful energy to the liturgy. The refrain is simple and soaring, making it easy for the congregation to catch the spirit of the music and join in. We often bring this out for moments of grand thanksgiving, perhaps as a joyful recessional or during a festive Offertory. It has that unmistakable feeling of a community overflowing with gratitude.

A. N. Okeiyi’s arrangement keeps the momentum driving forward through all seven verses. As we sing through the litany of creation, moving from the angels and heavens down to the "holy men of humble heart," the piece builds a profound sense of unity. It reminds us that our voices are just one part of a much larger song of praise echoing across the universe.
