About Bicinium for the Genevan Psalm 128
Christoph Dalitz's Bicinium draws inspiration from the Genevan tradition of psalmody. This setting for two voices (AT) is based on Ambrosius Lobwasser's German translation of Psalm 128, a text that speaks of the blessings of family life and the rewards of devotion. The psalm's themes of divine favour, domestic prosperity, and the flourishing of children are musically explored in this compact sacred work. Its dual-language nature, referencing both German and French texts (as Lobwasser's translation was influential in French-speaking reformed churches too), reflects the historical context of psalm singing. The piece offers a focused, devotional experience, suitable for liturgical or devotional settings.
