BETO TUNGA

"Beto Tunga" is a vibrant Offertory piece originally from Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), widely embraced by Nigerian Catholic choirs. The title translates to "Let us build," and the song serves as a joyful call to the congregation to bring their gifts to the altar.

The arrangement features a rhythmic, driving bass and tenor ostinato that sets a lively foundation before the sopranos and altos introduce the main melody. As the verses progress, they call on different groups in the church—fathers ("Ba tata"), mothers ("Ba mama"), the youth ("Bilinge"), the choir ("Chorale"), and the whole parish ("Paroisse")—to come forward with their offerings.

During Mass, this piece shines at the Offertory or during special thanksgiving celebrations. Its infectious rhythm and call-and-response structure make it a favorite for festive occasions, encouraging the entire church to participate in the procession with gladness.
