Ben riconosco Amore

This secular madrigal for SATTB voices is a lively Italian setting of poetry celebrating the power of love. The text uses vivid imagery of eyes as the arrows of love, and eyelids as wings, to express the burning passion and ardent desire evoked by a beloved gaze. Giovanni Battista de Bellis crafts a rich texture, allowing the voices to interplay and build the dramatic intensity of the verses. It is ideal for a concert program seeking to showcase the expressive capabilities of a skilled a cappella ensemble, particularly in the Renaissance tradition of polyphonic vocal music. This piece would suit a moment of heightened emotional expression within a concert setting.
