Behold, a virgin shall conceive

This setting of Isaiah 9:6b offers a compelling musical interpretation of the prophecy of Emmanuel. The text, drawn from the Old Testament, speaks of a virgin conceiving and bearing a son, Immanuel, meaning 'God with us.' The composer Roger Petrich sets this profound message for SATB choir, weaving together Hebrew and English lyrics to create a rich and evocative devotional experience. Suitable for services during Advent and Christmastide, the work provides a reflective and musically engaging opportunity for choirs to explore sacred choral repertoire. Its direct text and harmonic language aim to convey the solemnity and hope inherent in this significant prophetic passage.
