Luca Marenzio's SSATB madrigal Basciami mille, mille volte sets a text of passionate love. The singer implores their beloved to kiss them a thousand times, describing the lips as rosy and full of desire. If the singer's soul faints from such intense sweetness, they beg to be held close. Should death follow, it will be a sweet fate, a beautiful end brought by such a beloved. Marenzio's setting captures the intensity of this secular Renaissance Italian text with rich vocal writing for the five voices.
